Floods, Mudslides and the Universe...

With all my complaining about the summer heat, scattered thunderstorms and heavy rains have suddenly become the order of the day in Nihon-land. Having been lulled into the false of sense of security that everyday will be sunny and bright, now I detest having to go out in the mornings and go to work, riding my trusty bicycle, dripping wet with flecks of mud on my shirt and pants. This is one of the reasons why I hated living in Metro-Manila: the unexpected downpour that caused flash floods in the Dapitan, Sampaloc Area. And if you had to walk to the school, the mud, the mud.Hated it,Still hate it. Now it's all coming back to me like...mud?Hehe. On a more serious note, the rains here have been so excessive that mudslides have taken the lives of 20 or so people here in Japan. They have been talking about flood prevention measures since the Japan Meteorogical Agency has confirmed that 700 milliliters of rain fell in the last 6 days which is equivalent to July of last year's total average monthly rainfall. What does this mean?It means that Japan is catching up with Sampaloc, Manila in the occurrence of flash floods. One thing though is that Japan has the capabilities to cope with this problem.Sampaloc? Well, you can just say a little prayer and park your car somewhere high and safe.
On another note...Kurara Chibana of Naha City, Okinawa, Japan nearly won as Miss Universe 2006.Unfortunately she lost to Miss Puerto Rico because of her Frida Kahlo obsession and her obsessive need to look "western" enough. Well, most of the judges overlook Asians over Latinas, so better luck next time.Zannen ne...
P.S. Miss Philippines won Miss Photogenic...again...guess those Ragnarok playing kids at the neighborhood internet shop have been voting more than once...at least I can say I did.
