New TV shows of the Season that I Like

1. Heroes from NBC
"Save the cheerleader, save the world!" The tagline is ordinary people with extraordinary powers. From the first episode, I was hooked.Specially the Japanese character, Hiro, who reminds me of all the salarymen in suits you see everyday whether here in Fukuoka or faraway Tokyo. Brings out the inner nerdy geek in you that craved Star Wars light sabers and X-men comicbooks. Yatta!

2. Ugly Betty from ABC
Loosely based on the widely popular Colombian telenovela "Betty La Fea", Ugly Betty successfully transplants to downtown Manhattan and Queens and into any of the other 3 boroughs(hopefully not Staten Island though...joke!) Betty's Suarez' climb up the fashion ladder clad in a Guadalajara poncho. The quotes from the show are endless "That is the absolute cruelest thing I've ever seen.(Pause) Someone's getting a raise.Wilhelmina after seeing Mark dressed as Betty for Halloween." Flit! That's what butterflies do. Oh, I thought you were cursing me-Christina and Betty " You cannot submit my apartment for "pimp yo house" and "Have you been smoking your poncho?". Ugly Betty is a guilty pleasure like ice cream or french fries. You know it's bad for you but you totally love it for being fatty or fat. Whatever.

3. Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip from NBC
A satire based on a satire. Great buzz from the critics. From the creator of West Wing Aaron Sorkin. The return of Matthew Perry on television. These are the reasons why I initially stayed away from this show with a 10 foot pole. Then the ratings came in.Losing half of its audience in a week. All the more I stayed away from it. After having dowloaded my week's worth of essential viewing, I tried watching just one episode of Studio 60 and found it engaging without being condescending. I read one review saying "Although the show doesn't get as many viewers as the network would like, the quality of those viewers appeals to NBC. Studio 60 snares upscale, college-educated viewers in households with $75,000-plus and $100,000-plus incomes." Really now??? Anyway, still waiting for the episode where Matthew(the character) meets Joey in a reunion episode.Hahaha.
